It's a dragon with spines on the back of it's neck. Started this piece because I was starting to get a bit tense with my other drawing (that I'm almost finished) and I needed to loosen up a bit. I'm probably most comfortable drawing dragons and dinosaurs, especially since they were what I started drawing when I was little. Anyways this was really fun because I experimented a lot with different strokes, hatching, shading, eraser drawing, textures, etc. A lot of this drawing was improvised, hence the funky smoke.

The first piece I've done on Cardstock paper. Works well, because it's not flimsy like printer paper. The texture of the paper is more or less the same, but it's also thicker. Unfortunately the scanner's a pain as always, I had to scan it about 5 times because it kept cropping the image. Then, of course, messing about in PS to fix the lighting, contrasts, sharpness, coloured noise, etc... It sucks because the scanner doesn't pick up the finer details so it doesn't look as good on computer as it does with the naked eye.

I adore the way its been shaded, and how you get a sense he's textured and battle scarred.
Also the bordering technique you used is fantastic! Really effective!

Thnx! ^.^
I used to draw a lot of dinosaurs when I was younger and my dragon designs are based on various dinos, so I guess it shows!

Great work on the details and the texture. The spines on the back are a nice touch.
